Geography at the Deanery will aim to provide students with a broad understanding of different places, processes, environments, economy’s and cultures. We will explore the world and its people through case studies which challenge student’s perceptions of the world and its people. Whilst giving them the skills and knowledge to understand the physical features they see. Students will learn how human interactions can change the world we live in. They will learn about their own impact on the environment and the causes and effects of climate change. Students will also have the chance to develop their scientific research skills and statistical analysis to help them test hypothesis and prove theories.
Geography curriculum vision
- Every student will have a contextual knowledge of significant global places, both land and sea. They will be able to define physical and human characteristics showing they understand the actions of processes.
- Every student will be able to complete valuable and relevant field data that involves collecting, analysing and communicating their range of findings as well as summarising what that might mean.
- Every student will be able to utilise a range of sources to gather geographical information. This includes maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems. (GIS)
- Every student will be able to share, with confidence, geographical knowledge in varying forms from verbal to numerical through to extended written answers

- To encourage learners' natural curiosity of the world by giving them the opportunity to learn about a broad range of places and processes.
- To introduce learners to key threshold concepts which will build the foundations of their geographical understanding
- To develop learners' understanding of the threshold concepts through a range of engaging topics.
- To develop skills which allow learners to interpret geographical information such as maps, diagrams, graphs and globes.
- To incorporate local case studies into students' learning, to help them understand the world they live in.
- To develop a geographical vocabulary whilst also encouraging good use of English and Mathematics within each lesson.
- To evoke learners' natural curiosity about the world and encourage their awareness of their impact on the environment.
