Welcome

Vision, Ethos & Values

Discovering and Learning Together, so all can Flourish

"A tree planted by steams of water, which yields its fruits in season" (Psalm 1:3)

Hope - Service - Resilience - Wisdom

This is a new educational approach for a school - which will be unique in the Swindon area.

There is a blend of rigorous academic programme with a focus on the whole child and outstanding opportunities in sports, leadership, and the creative and performing arts.

Through these activities our young people will learn key life skills such as communication, exploration, discernment and perseverance.

Values are at the heart of everything we do. They include wisdom, hope, service and resilience.

In line with the Church of England education strategy we promote an education that allows children, young people and adults to live out 'life in all its fullness'.

We believe this to be an education which enables every person to flourish in the widest sense.  It will help them to:

  • grow in wisdom
  • cultivate a wide-ranging knowledge that will help broaden life chances
  • develop spiritual, intellectual and emotional resources
  • nurture character to live well together in a community.

Although the Deanery CE Academy has a religious designation it is not a school only for Christians but rather a Christian school for everyone.

Each student who joins us will be valued equally whatever their belief, background or culture.

Andrew Smith

I am currently the Housing Lead at a social consultancy - The Good Economy, based in Bath.  I have a background in education, and youth work.  I completed the Teach First scheme - teaching Maths in a central London secondary school.  Since then I've worked for The Challenge, helping to deliver the NCS programme for 17-19 year olds, and also setting up and running an apprenticeship training provider.  I also have experience of working with children leaving the care system.  Outside of work, I enjoying mountain biking and board gaming.  I live in north Swindon and have two young children.

Revd. Dr Phill Harrison

As the Vicar of Wroughton and Wichelstowe, I look after the Church of England parish that includes the Deanery CE School and am an ex-officio member of the Local Board. I’m really excited about the once-in-a-generation opportunity to open a new Church of England secondary school in Swindon. I hope and pray that the way we run the school will make it a blessing to staff and students of all faiths and none. I have a professional background in management in the financial services industry and an interest in education.

Naomi Luckman

I knew from a young age that I always wanted to be a teacher and that I always wanted to teach PE. I graduated as a secondary school teacher of Physical Education at the University of Gloucestershire in 2005.  My path in education then took a different direction, where I followed the pastoral route, working in two very challenging, yet rewarding city schools; in Bristol and Birmingham.  I am an avid sports fan and player, and I was recently selected to represent Wales in the Home Nations and European Hockey Championships. I play for Newent HC and will really enjoy playing Swindon HC on our fantastic pitch!  My other interests include the theatre, snow and water sports and spending time with my family.

Samantha Teague

I am a certified accountant who has been working in the Finance industry for over 20 years. I'm married with two sons - the eldest of which had the pleasure of becoming one of the Deanery's pioneer students. I spend most of my spare time enjoying life with my young family but, as they become more independent, I now look forward to being able to give some of my time to the local board to support the school in achieving its vision.

-------------

Mark Glennerster (co-opted member)

Having worked in the construction industry for over 30 years and having previously held senior roles in large international engineering consultancies I have considerable experience in work on policies, procedures and budget setting. I look forward to bringing this experience to the role of Governor and help ensure that children at the Deanery are given the chance to maximise their potential and develop into confident members of society. I am married with 2 children aged 9 and 11 and have a keen interest in motorsport where I am an active competitor. I am a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
